Last Day of Building!

On the last day of building we finished a lot! We figured out how to get multiple pictures for the price of one picture. We all listened to each other and finished a lot. We spent exactly $15,000! We have cute little animals on our farm and a red carpet! We all really had fun working on this project, and we created a stronger friendship!

Last day :(

Today is our last day, and we are putting our finishing touches on the building. Because our building is a lake house, we decided to include moss to make it look more like a swamp. Throughout this project, I feel that my group has worked really well together and comprimising was easy for us. Our technigques while creating this projecr seemed to work extremely well because every time we did a shake test, our building stood strong. I'm very excited to do another group project just like this one!

Last Day!!!

We spray painted our building brown and almond. We decided to get pebbles and sand to make the building a modern-beach-complex! We made a pebble path and put moss around the edges! We have a front door that's made out of Styrofoam.
We had lots of fun doing this project! :)
Today we finished the apartment and used paper printed pictures. I loved working with my group and we had lots of fun. We added a stone path and brick pictures. I have had such a fun time working with my group on this project.

Day 3 of Building, Last but NOT Least

We finally finished with time and money to spare! Our stable (hopefully) building is surrounded by a ring of moss, and has 6 supporting wood sticks to hold it together. We tried to do an original design by doing a tall building with cross bracings. We tried to go beyond just a box. Everyone's designs, from bricks to clock-towers, look amazing and I am excited to test them out!!

Final Building Day!!!

Chloe, Eliza, Ashton, and I (Alex) finally finished our roof top basketball court!!! We also added a garden in the front and back. YAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

Our Finishing Touches, and Tearful Goodbyes

What a great last day! But, of course, trouble found its way to our group. At first we were deeply above budget, but thanks to another group, we managed to sell our clay for $1,000! At the end of the class, our building looked great, and Matthew, Chris, Lulu, and I felt extremely relieved. Hopefully it survives the shake table!:)

Day 2 Building Assignment

Today, our last official day of building, we finished our roof ( balsa wood and a skylight made with plastic wrap), and decorated the outside walls with red clay to act as paint. We used less hot glue than last time and cut a few deals, so, I personally think today has been a good day. Topper finally glued and did a good job, and so far, building is so beautiful ( it's red!). As you can see, it's wonderful!!!

2nd day... and still working...

We got our building structure done. It is a colorful pentagon and it has a white top. The reason for the building is a Mountain Animal Veterinary Association and what the people do there is care for animals in the wild. The association is known as MAVA and is a popular place for well trained vets to go. All we need to is write on the left over felt "MAVA -Mountain Animal Veterinary Association" and another banner looking thing with our names on it. Another thing we need to  is put maybe grass or sand or gravel, etc just to give it a nice wildlife look. Maybe even paint it.

RLBI Industries

Today is our second day building. our building looks good. We're still trying to figure out our roof.
I have had a great time working with my group. We made an awesome house with floor to ceiling windows, a skylight, and a pool. I can't believe we are down, and I am amazed with the final look!
Today we finished glueing our building but tomorrow at lunch we will decorate make our building AWESOME! Hotel innovation is underway and will be opened very soon.
Hey guys, it's day 2 of the EQ building challenge.

I think that we're ready, but the flag on the top is a little loose. My teammates are Teddy, Quinn, Dara, and me. I hope our hard work pays off!

VICTORY - day 2

TODAY WAS A SUCCESS!!!

We finished our building with $5000, that meant that we had some money to decorate our building. After adding graffiti, a sign and other touches around the structure, we ended up with $3200. Our building not only looks cool, but it can take a 9.0 earthquake. All in all today was a huge success!!!

Day 2 - Troubles are overcome

Troubles haunted us last class. But today, we overcame them with adding a box on top of our rickety, thrown together, last minute plan. We took out one piece of baltic wood, and added four nails to the base. We make a good team, the team of Table 3. We make a good team, and we overcame all our worst plans from day 1.
-Julia

Day 2's Adventure!

Today was day 2 for building our structure to withstand an earthquake, and we are doing great, but we also had a few problems. I am in a group with Brandon, Cici, and Reina and our first problem today was that our walls for our octagon were uneven. We had to take out the walls, and since the height was uneven, add some balsa wood on the bottom of them to raise them up. We are, as we speak starting to shape the roof that we are making out of cardboard. We are binding together the walls also with clay because, not only were they uneven, but they were also on the verge of collapsing. We are also coloring our walls  to make the look like bricks. We are doing great, and even if more problems come, we are ready for the challenge!

Building day 2

Today we started putting the finishing touches on our building, like the roof and different kinds of fabric. We didn't seem to have any problems and we were getting things done quickly. We tested different kinds of materials to cover our building so it would look more like a house, and everything worked out. We had an awesome time building today, and we got a lot done!

Building day 2

We started building and we are almost finished with the roof and then we will do decorations for the apartment. The building is sturdy enough to be in an earthquake. The walls are all put up.

2nd Building Day!!!

Chloe, Ashton, Eliza and I (Alex) decided to make our school a little bit bigger by adding a second level. We also added a basketball court on top. Almost done!!!!!

Our Second Day in Action

Our first day was definitely filled with ups and DOWNS. We spent a very long time putting in the pipes, but then realized we placed them in incorrectly! But we replaced them and filled them with sand, and now our building is extremely sturdy. We also 3-D printed our clock tower, and are about to do the roof! Wish us luck!
-Brooke

Building Day 2

We accomplished so much today!
We have almost finished putting up our cross bracings and floors. We still need to put up walls and the roof.

So excited for the finished product!
- Anna, Lucas, Max, and Blaze (who wasn't here today)
Today we made a lot of progress on our apartment building! I am in a group with Anjali, Luca, and Eric, and Ted. First, we hot glued the cardboard walls into the foam base. Then, we secured the walls and roof with plaster of paris. It has been a very successful day of working with my group!

Day #1 EQ building (max chase oliver) Y

Today was our first day of the EQ building project. It started out hard because we couldn't buy metal pieces, but we replaced that idea with card board. Other than that today was a success!

Building Day One

Today was my groups first day of building, and we have decided on making a pyramid shape for our structure. We are still debating using wheels to make the earthquake lighter on the structure. We also discussed the future of our structure. We have cut out our triangles and next time we will put them together. Also, we may put on the wheels if we do decide to use them. We would be assembling the wheels as shown in the picture below, and then would either make a small area inside the base of our structure or add the wheels by putting it through the base. I think we made good progress today and on day two we will be able to make a lot more progress now that we are pretty sure of what we are doing.

Building Day #1

Quinn, Dara, Noah and I have made a lot of progress. We made our base (very sturdy) out of balsa wood and a pipe. Next time we hope to make decorations and make it look cool on the outside.

Building Day #1

Today my group started building our factory and the group made about two deals and earned more money while doing it. What a victory we girls had today and we had so much fun doing it.

building day 1!!!!!

Our first day of building went so well and we successfully built our base and a start to a sturdy house. My group and I worked very well and I'm glad to be paired with who I got! Thanks Celine for this brilliant building project!

Day One Building-Ups and Down

Woking as a group is very helpful for us to see the different opinions that we each have. We made lots of progress today. All we need to do is decorate and put the roof on. I hope that we make even more progress next time.

Building Day 1

We discovered problems with wood, so we scratched that and started using balsa wood walls (instead of wood), wood stake beams (instead of nails), and a foam foundation. We love working together, and hope to finish next class. - Written Pat Editor - Siena Photographer - Julia

Day One of Adventure

We started out with some obstacles in the way of our dreams. We were having conflicts in which shape the building should be and we also had a smaller conflict on roles of people. We ended up colliding our opinions and making a unique piece of architecture. It is going well with building everyone is very delighted with the outcome so far. I am sure that once it is finished it will be very extravagant and amazing.  We are having a lot of fun with this project although there are some bumps in the way.

Building day 1

Today when we started building we had a lot of problems. We found out that some materials didn't work out that we planned on using for our building. Now we started to use cardboard and clay and it worked very well. We aren't having anymore problems but we are all working very well as a team.

Day 1 - Building

Today, we started to buy materials that are necessary for building support and walls. We drew the dimensions on the base and paper so we know where to place the balsa wood. We haven't bought decorations, we are saving those for the end so we have enough money for the building itself. We are planning on building a modern condo. We are using bamboo sticks as a frame and balsa wood as the walls/ ceiling.

Earthquake Building Day 1: Planning and Gathering

Today we settled on a final plan for our building. We gathered all of the materials needed and can't wait for the construction stage! We outlined our structure and are ready and eager to start next class!- Max, Blaze, Anna, and Lucas

First Day; First Problems

Today was a very successful first day along with my group mates Matthew, Lulu, and Chris! We managed to crunch our numbers enough to buy everything we needed, and used those materials to create a sturdy base. We did run into trouble about our weights, but have decided to ditch that plan and use pipes instead. Hopefully we will continue to make great progress in our class next time!
-Brooke

Building Day 1!!

Started building with Chloe, Ashton, and Eliza! Drawing the Middle Roof next class. Going to be awesome!

EQ 1

These are our blue prints for an apartment building. We are using cardboard for the walls and hot gluing them to the foam base. The walls are 6.5x10 inches. This is made by Eric, Luca, Tess, and Anjali.

Day One Planning!

Today was out first day of the Earthquake Challenge! We experimented with different materials and came up with a general price list for all of the things we needed. My group consists of me, Sophie, Bella, Denise, and Charles. In the end, we ended up having $3,200.00 left over. We can't wait to start building next time!

Our Building's Plan

Our group (Esan, Ruby, Talia, and I) is going to be using many different materials. We are thinking about using Coroplast, PVC pipes, and hot glue. We are going to have a pyramid shaped building, so all sides can rely on each other. Hopefully our building will be EQ proof!

Day #1 Planning

Today was the first day of starting this project, and my partners and I started planning out the earthquake proof building! I am in a group with Jackie, James, and Topper (he was not here today though). We have a great idea so far with many different materials involved, and we are still inside the budget by a lot! We are having a lot of fun planning the building, and I can't wait to put this earthquake proof building idea to action.

#1 Blog on EQ building

I am in a group with Noah, Ted, and Dara. This is our sketch of our building we will make. Its a hotel and it will have a rooftop pool.

Thursday, January 15, 2015

The first day has begun! Our team works well together, and we have comprised and devised a plan. We accomplished a design and a model (of a MODEL!). Our plan is…we will utilize wood blocks (as a mock foundation) which will wrap around cardboard walls that are supported by metal beams. We are excited to start!

Day #1

I am in a group with Summer, Demi, and Olivia. We have decided to use may different materials. By using this strategy we can make our building stronger so it can withstand a 7.0 earthquake. Check out THIS link to learn more about stable building
